Comfort food in a retro setting, Annie’s Cafe continues being a Congress Park favorite.

Annie’s Cafe on Colfax Avenue is a first rate neighborhood eatery in Congress Park! About to celebrate its 35th birthday, it’s well known in Denver for its old fashioned decor and home cooking.

At Annie’s casual, friendly vibe is as important as the food. On the corner of East Colfax Avenue and Saint Paul Street, its cozy rooms are dressed retro with old movie posters and tin lunch boxes. Adding to the charm the TCM channel always stays on, allowing guests to watch movies while sipping their coffee or cocktail. Old school neon signs still decorate the walls. And at the counter you can purchase penny candy such as fireballs and BAZOOKA gum.

Annie’s Cafe menu delivers up comfort food and a full bar. Daily lunch and bar specials are offered and of course happy hour is twice a day. Their milk shakes and cheeseburgers are very popular items. The tamales keep bringing back customers and receiving write-ups by popular publications. Annie’s savory version of pork and corn tamales (dehusked before plating) are smothered with cheese and green chile. The dish also comes with two eggs, black beans and tortillas. Plus the bill won’t hurt the wallet. What’s not to love?
